As we are heading toward the end of Mental Health Awareness week, I wanted to share this short blog.
It is such an inspiration to see so many people from all around the world and all walks of life coming together to share awareness. Awareness is such an important aspect to encourage people who are suffering in silence to come forward and get help. I gave a talk to students, about the importance of good mental health, in a ballet school in March of this year, and I thought to myself, even if this talk just creates awareness and understanding of the importance of mental health, I have made a difference.
A few days later I was told that, by creating awareness and understanding, it prompted a struggling student to come forward and get help. I hope, that with the positive steps forward we have seen this week, courage to come forward is something we will start seeing more of.
As we are all aware, mental health has always had a stigma attached to it, but it is so refreshing to see this stigma slowly lifted. This is such a turning point in the way people view mental health, after all – mental health is just as important as physical health.
